George & Pilgrims Hotel, Glastonbury
The George & Pilgrim set in the heart of the magical town of Glastonbury is a fantastic location dating back to the 1400's and is the oldest purpose built public house in the South West of England. Originally built to accommodate pilgrims visiting the nearby Glastonbury Abbey it is a building steeped in history and fascinating tales of folklore.
This location is well known for paranormal activity, visitors and staff have experienced many things, this location has become more well known since it's appearance on TV’s Great British Ghosts with Michaela Strachan.
During our investigation we had access to 5 (most active) bedrooms on the same floor for privacy during our investigation, the extensive bar areas and the unique cellars which are created from the ancient underground passage which originally ran under the pub leading all the way to the Abbey.
The night started off with team member Kirsty jumping about 3 feet in the air as someone breathed in her ear! Something which had also happened to her on a previous investigation at The George & Pilgrims. Other members of the group reported being touched and feeling like they were being watched by unseen eyes.
The main hallway (pictured below left) also 'felt' very busy and CCTV cameras showed lots of dust - or orbs, the great debate - coming and going along the hallway.
Perhaps the scariest parts of this ancient Inn are the cellars and the bar area. Several groups felt they were being stopped from leaving by the spirit of a man in the cellars and one group exited rather quickly - fear really does breed fear but the team leaders also felt very uneasy!
In the bar area there are two fantastic old chairs which people felt very odd sitting in with several guests appearing to physically change - a phenomenon known as Transfiguration - which was very interesting to watch. Without witnessing what had happened to the previous occupant of the chair, guests sat slumped in the chair with their hands on the arms and fingers over the end. All very interesting...
A sensitive team member also had a very frightening experience whilst sitting at the end of the bar feeling like she was being 'taken over' by a sinister entity. The interesting thing with this was that exactly the same thing happened to a friend of the team on a previous investigation sitting in exactly the same spot! Apparently there used to be a passageway behind where the chair in question is and there is also a priest hole in this room.
In one of the bedrooms, one of our ladies said she felt someone sit on the end of the bed she was lying on and her crutches were pushed over when they asked for something to be moved which resulted in much hilarity - you really had to be there but obviously a fun loving ghost!
We were still getting activity the following morning with team members catching 'orbs' in broad daylight! All in all we had a great night and can't wait to go back in the future! Watch this space.
